Zong Z HomeFi 5G Review: Is 100GB for Rs4,500 Worth It?

In October 2026, Zong launched something Pakistan had been waiting for: Z HomeFi 5G, the country’s first 5G home broadband service. No fibre cable, no waiting for installation teams — just a small device that catches Zong’s 5G signal and gives your whole house Wi-Fi.

The launch also triggered a wave of criticism. Rs4,500 for 100GB? Speeds capped at 50 Mbps on a “5G” service? In this review, we go through every package, every catch, and one honest question: should your home buy this, or stick with fibre?

What Is Z HomeFi and How Does It Work?

Z HomeFi is a fixed wireless service. Instead of a wire coming into your home, you get an indoor device (a router with a SIM inside) that connects to the nearest Zong 5G tower and creates a Wi-Fi network in your house. Zong says up to 64 devices can connect at once — far more than any normal home needs — and if the 5G signal is weak, the device falls back to 4G instead of disconnecting.

The device costs Rs22,000 (including taxes) and comes with a 2-year warranty. There is no online ordering: you visit a Zong Customer Service Centre with your CNIC, staff check whether your address is inside Zong’s 5G coverage area, you pass a fingerprint (BVS) verification, and you pay for the device plus your first bundle. The service is currently available in selected major cities only, so the coverage check matters — do not pay anything before your address is confirmed.

All 12 Packages and Prices

Zong sells twelve monthly bundles: three data sizes (100 GB, 250 GB, 500 GB) at four speed levels (10, 20, 30 and 50 Mbps). Prices include GST and advance income tax, so the price you see is the price you pay.

Speed (up to)100 GB250 GB500 GB
10 MbpsRs4,500Rs5,500Rs7,500
20 MbpsRs5,500Rs6,500Rs8,500
30 MbpsRs6,000Rs7,500Rs10,000
50 MbpsRs7,500Rs9,000Rs11,000

Your first month is the expensive one: the cheapest possible start is Rs26,500 (Rs22,000 device + Rs4,500 bundle), and the top package brings the first month to Rs33,000. From the second month onwards, you only pay the bundle price.

The Catches You Must Know Before Buying

This is where the launch earned its criticism. Read these carefully:

1. “5G” speed, 4G-era caps. Zong’s own 5G trials have recorded speeds above 1.4 Gbps. Z HomeFi, however, is capped at a maximum of 50 Mbps — and the entry package is capped at just 10 Mbps. You are paying for the 5G label, not 5G speed.

2. There is no unlimited package. Every plan has a hard data limit. For a home connection — where a single game download or a week of family streaming can pass 100 GB without effort — that is a serious restriction.

3. When your data ends, your internet stops. Many services slow you down after the limit; Z HomeFi simply suspends the connection until you buy another bundle or add-on. Zong does send usage alerts at 50%, 80% and 100%, but the cut-off still happens. Running out of data three days before the month ends means three days offline or extra spending.

4. The per-GB maths is poor. On the entry plan you pay roughly Rs45 per GB. On the top 500 GB plan it improves to about Rs22 per GB — still far above fibre, as the comparison below shows.

How Long Does 100 GB Actually Last?

Data limits feel abstract until you translate them into daily life. As a rough guide, 100 GB is about:

  • 30–35 hours of HD video streaming (Netflix/YouTube at HD quality uses roughly 3 GB per hour)
  • 130+ hours of online classes or video calls at standard quality
  • One or two large game downloads — modern game updates alone can be 30–60 GB each
  • A month of light use for one or two people: browsing, social media, some YouTube at lower quality

A family of four that streams every evening, attends online classes, and downloads games will finish 100 GB well before the month ends. A single person or a couple with modest habits can manage it — carefully.

HomeFi vs Fibre: The Honest Comparison

If fibre is available in your street, this comparison (based on current published tariffs) is uncomfortable for Zong:

ServiceTypeSpeedDataMonthly priceApprox. Rs per GB
Zong Z HomeFi5G wireless10 Mbps100 GBRs4,500~Rs45
Zong Z HomeFi5G wireless50 Mbps500 GBRs11,000~Rs22
PTCL Flash FiberFibre40 Mbps2,500 GBRs3,350~Rs1.34
PTCL Flash FiberFibre100 Mbps4,000 GBRs6,900~Rs1.73
StormFiberFibre100 MbpsLarge/unlimited-style plansRs7,399—

PTCL’s Rs3,350 fibre plan gives you four times the speed and twenty-five times the data of Zong’s entry package — for Rs1,150 less per month. Where Nayatel, StormFiber, Optix or PTCL fibre is available and reliable, fibre wins on speed, data and price, and it is not close.

Who Should Buy Z HomeFi — and Who Should Not

It can make sense if:

  • Fibre has not reached your area, or your local fibre service is unreliable
  • You rent and move often — the device moves with you, no installation or wiring
  • Your household is small, with light-to-moderate usage that fits inside 250–500 GB
  • You need a backup connection for work and your area has strong Zong 5G coverage

Choose fibre instead if:

  • PTCL, Nayatel, StormFiber or Optix serves your street
  • Your family streams heavily, games online, or downloads large files
  • Several people work or study from home all day — a hard data cap is a real risk

Our Verdict

Z HomeFi 5G is a genuinely useful idea launched at hard-to-defend prices. The technology works, setup is simple, and for homes beyond fibre’s reach it may be the best option available today. But capped speeds of 10–50 Mbps, a hard data limit that cuts your connection off, no unlimited option, and roughly Rs45 per GB on the entry plan make it poor value wherever fibre exists.

Our advice: check fibre availability at your address first. Only if fibre is unavailable — or truly unreliable — does Z HomeFi deserve your Rs26,500. Prices in this review were checked in October 2026; Zong may revise packages, so confirm the current bundle list at a Zong centre before paying.

FAQs

Q: How much does Z HomeFi cost to start?
The device costs Rs22,000, and the cheapest monthly bundle is Rs4,500, so your first month costs Rs26,500 in total. After that, you only pay the monthly bundle price. All bundle prices include GST and advance income tax, and the device carries a 2-year warranty from Zong.

Q: What happens when my data finishes before the month ends?
Your internet stops. Unlike services that slow you down after the limit, Z HomeFi suspends the connection until you buy another bundle or an add-on. Zong sends usage alerts at 50%, 80% and 100% so you get warnings, but once the quota is exhausted, so is your connection.

Q: Is Z HomeFi available in my city?
Z HomeFi has launched in selected major cities only, and coverage is checked address by address. There is no online ordering — visit a Zong Customer Service Centre with your CNIC, and staff will check your address against the 5G coverage list before taking any payment. Never pay before your coverage is confirmed.

Q: Is Z HomeFi faster than fibre?
No. Z HomeFi speeds are capped at 50 Mbps maximum, and the entry plan is capped at 10 Mbps. A typical fibre connection offers 40–100 Mbps or more with thousands of GB of data at a lower monthly price. HomeFi’s real advantage is availability and portability, not speed.
